Summary: Graphic effects are only decorative accessories to architectural drawings, but they give designs and plans their special finish, for neat script, good disposition and artistic layout characterise the perfect architectural drawing. A great deal of time and work is employed by architects and designers in trying to provide this special finish, the giving of ‘’life’’ to matter-of-fact technical drawing. We have collected the most interesting designs on this subject from recent international architectural competitions and reproduced the in this book. The example given are, therefore all typical of current practice. There are drawing of trees, people, animals and vehicles and they deliberately avoid details. By their simple and yet imaginative design the motives acquire a speciality in form, which raises them from the merely practical field to an artistic sphere. This volume gives the designer numerous specimens ready to be copied and furthermore gives an incentive for his own creative work. The pleasure of applying such skill in design should not, however make the graphic element an end in itself, for exaggeration could give the impression that errors made in the actual plan need to be hidden.
