The lighting of buildings

The committee on the Lighting of Buildings of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research made a study of the general principles of lighting and have considered in detail the lightings of dwellings and school. The report opens with brief discussions of principles. The quantitative factors like light, brightness and qualitative factos like light distribution or contrasts has been used to influence the design. The second part of reports talks about methods of measurement. The report, therefore, deals with design methods of natural lighting in considerable detail, and also discussed the important question of the way in which the development of site for buildings influences the effectivess of natural lighting in the rooms. Detailed and precise standards of natural and artificaial lighting for dwellings are put forward in third part while part four deals with the lighting of schools. The report ends with sections like lighting education and future work.
