Summary: A new and important aspect of architecture in terms of aesthetics and economy is the field of sun-control in residential, business and school builidings. In this volume the Olgyay brothers review the previously known architectural principles of solar analysis and control and add to this the sound scholarship of their own research in climatology as well as the fresh, original contributions of their brilliant career as practicing. The first sections of the book discuss the role of shading devices as architectrual elements, the technical considerations in the design of solar protection, and the practical applications of shading methods. The last part contains over one hundred expamples of solar-control devices in eexisting buildings, illustrated and evaluated. No other text has combined such sound meterology with sound architecture. The authors have developed their analysis and solutions painstakingly for the expert, while maintaining an excellent balance with the general interest of modern architectrual aesthetics
