It is remarkable that in spite of the evident importance of detailing the subject has been largely neglected in architectural literature. Two notable exceptions are the Architect and Building News, for whom this book is published, and the German periodical Detail Zeitschrift fur Architektur and Baudetail, form whose pages the present examples have been selected. The present volume comprises of four main sections - structural, exterior and interior details and the fourth with unity of detail.The subsections are concerned with sub matters as skeleton construction in steel and reinforced concrete, walls, roofs and structural ceilings and partial fabrication; facades, balconies and railings, wall openings, canopies and steps; decorative and luminous ceilings; partitions, wall cladding, stairs and floors, fixtures and fittings. This book, which is the first of a series, should prove an inspiration both to practicing architects and to students who hope to become the architects of tomorrow.
